Self Portrait Symmetry
I found this idea, of course, on Pinterest! I love Pinterest and think that it is an important resource for teachers to find new ideas and share ideas as well!
This project is super fun, and can be easily paired with a lesson on symmetry and also a lesson on self-portraits. You will need to take pictures of the students and enlarge them and cut them in half. The students will use the knowledge they gained about symmetry from your lesson in order to create the "other half" of their self-portrait. Making their picture symmetrical just as their face actually is! Make sure to mention the line of symmetry which in this case is vertical!
This is a great way to let your students use creative expression in the classroom. To me it is so important that the students learn and be creative at the same time and this self portrait symmetry does just that!
Make sure you include in this lesson some information about some famous self- portraits:
For basic information on what a self portrait is use this website:

Here are two fun links to famous painters who painted a lot of self portraits! Help your students research these artists and discover their self portraits. See if they can draw lines of symmetry on these self portraits like they did on their own!
